Puppy Socialisation & Group Dog Training Classes
Join our training classes, starting 23rd February 2012
- Join our puppy and dog training classes and learn how to effectively socialise and train your dog.
- Acquire the necessary skills to promote good behaviour and tune-in to your dog’s natural strengths and weaknesses.
- It is crucial that you socialise your dog at an early age. Many problems in later life are caused by lack of correct early socialisation.
Some vets advise that your puppy will have sufficient immunisation after their first injection. Others recommend the final vaccination before socialising in a mixed environment.
If you do wish to socialise your puppy in one of our classes prior to its final vaccination you will need to provide written confirmation and agreement from your vet.
The key issue is that you should not miss the opportunity to encourage your dog to mix with other puppies, older, fully vaccinated dogs, children, strangers, different surroundings, noises and textures. They need to learn acceptable ‘meet and greet manners’, develop an understanding of body language and learn canine and human boundaries.
It is important that our puppies are socialised with different environments and not simply people and other dogs. If they become familiar with our world at an early age they learn to have confidence and develop into well rounded dogs.
Socialisation is imperative. It is not a case of “should I socialise my dog?”, but “how can I socialise my dog?” and if you decide you need a class, “Where are the best classes and how early can I get my dog to attend?” The earlier you can enrol on a good class the better. Your puppy will benefit most if given these opportunities in the early weeks of its life.
In order to avoid encouraging or re-enforcing bad behaviour, socialisation and puppy training need to be handled correctly. There is no point in socialising your dog if this means that he won’t listen to you when there is another dog in the room. The two elements, training and socialisation go hand in hand. Always seek advice if you feel that your training is going awry. - We all work better if we have something to aim for – There needs to be a beginning, middle and an end to training like everything else in life. An ongoing class can induce boredom for the dog and handler – This is why our puppy and advanced puppy classes run on a 6 week cycle. It is far better to maintain your dog’s motivation and willingness to learn.
If, at the end of the course, you want to stay in a group training environment and continue to enhance your skills you are able to enrol on a further course. If, however, you feel that your objectives have been met by the intense one to one training provided, you can simply continue reinforcing the training on your own at home. The choice is yours.
Our puppy classes have limited availability due to the restriction on class numbers enabling us to guarantee that you will receive one to one attention during the class as required. We ensure you learn the necessary skills to teach your puppy basic training commands. We will work to your dog’s individual level and actively encourage you to undertake training at home. We also help you to address any individual behaviour problems that you may be experiencing with your puppy. We ensure that these issues are continually reviewed so that you can be happy and relaxed with all aspects of your dog’s development. Book the next available course for your puppy.
